Looking Back:

Gender-based violence was “already a global crisis before the pandemic;” COVID-19 compounded it. A new UN Women report, Measuring the Shadow Pandemic: Violence against Women during COVID-19, draws on survey data from over a dozen countries. It shows that almost 1 in 2 women reported that either themselves or someone they knew had experienced a form of violence since the onset of the pandemic.

Looking Forward:

It goes without saying that the pandemic has transformed the workplace, or that it will no longer be possible to work as we did in the past. Despite the merits of work-from-home, certain activities and jobs cannot be carried out effectively—or at all—entirely remotely. There is undeniable value in building interpersonal connections through face-to-face interaction that is not easily achievable in remote meetings. For now, the hybrid model will be “the new norm” at ADB.
