When people come to the Ombuds Office for help, they often reveal to us difficult situations they are struggling to navigate, where one concern has usually led to another or others. They then find themselves trapped in tight spots.

Regardless of the variety and diversity of issues we dealt with in 2021, most of them were centered around work-related stress and work-life balance. We also observed other interconnections such as concerns around mental health, physical working and/or living conditions, and respect and/or treatment represented through the large number of cases related to these issues.

Interconnectivity of Issues

The interactive diagram below depicts how, most of the time, issues are related to at least one or more other sub-issue(s). The circles represent sub-issues, and the lines represent cases. The size of the circle determines the number of sub-issues while the thickness of the line determines the number of linked cases.

Note: A case may involve multiple individuals and issues.

Since the Office of the Ombudsperson's (OOMP) review of its database and case management methodology, it has improved how it gathers, interprets, and evaluates data and other findings to reflect the scope of its activities more comprehensively. This has been further refined in 2021. Following these enhancements, comparative analysis of some data will be limited to a 2-year trend, covering 2020 and 2021 only. .
